It was in 2007 and I just finished another "photo shoot" with the chocolate muffins. Then, I did not know much about Photoshop. It took me a couple of years to be where I am but it didn't stop me from uploading my unedited photos for the whole world to see so I was shocked when somebody left me a comment upon looking at my photo:
It was in all honesty, just a chocolate muffin (well for me at least) but yet he gave such a beautiful comment. Three years on and I can still remember him. His comment is below:
There's a small boy in a tea shop who wants some cake. His mother is talking to her friends, so he wonders if he can just grab the cake and eat it, and everything will be ok. He is nervous, and watches the counter staff move back and forth, serving customers, wiping down benches. He looks back at the cake. It reminds him of his visit to the pool, where his mother brought him a jelly snake – it must be the same here, surely – except here there would be crumbs. The cakes look so big from where he is stranding on his tip-toes. All he has to do is reach out….
Sarah has just broken up with her boyfriend, so she has gone to the local tea shop to console herself in a cup of earl grey, and maybe a cake. She wipes her face and looks up from her cup to survey the cakes. There is a small boy at the edge of the counter, looking at some muffins. She looks elsewhere, at the cheesecakes, the sponges. Then back to the muffins. They look good. She smiles at the small boy, who obviously wants one, as he is looking to the counter staff, then back to his mother, then to the cake, and so on. She smiles when he reaches out….
Tom has only just started working at the teashop, after being slowly fired from his job in retail, he was happy to do anything. He never did anything wrong, and they never actually said “we don’t want you to work here”, but the lack of shifts meant a lack of money, so in the end he just had to look elsewhere. It was a busy day, but he could handle it, going from customer to customer. It was quite an experience working in a teashop. Some people just came and went, and others sat down for a while. Like that cute girl with her cup of earl grey, and the group of mothers. A small boy catches his eye, it looks like he is just about to reach out for the muffins…
I guess his comment was one of the many reason as to why I didn't give up on myself and be where I am now.
